Hobart Doula Village
The families that I support all have access to the Hobart Doula Village, a group run in collaboration with another local doula.
This community is all about connection, sharing experiences, and receiving support with like-minded families. We meet on a monthly basis at a child-friendly local park or cafe.

Yes I can come to your home to support you during labour if you would like this, or I can meet you at the hospital if you are feeling ok at home, or if things pick up and you decide to head into hospital quickly. I am ready to support you when you request it. We discuss this further in our prenatal meetings. I can also support you via phone and text message during early labour until you’re ready to head into hospital.

I am trained to provide guidance and support to your birth partner and am conscious to respect your dynamic without getting in the way and I certainly don’t replace them. I work to foster this relationship by giving your support person tips and guidance during our prenatal visits, and then subtle pointers during labour and birth as needed. Supporting a woman through labour is a big task, especially for someone who has most likely never seen or supported birth before. I find that birth partners are incredibly appreciative of the support for both the woman and themselves.
If you do not to have a birth partner, I am confident to be your primary support person during labour and birth.

No, I do not make any decisions for you and don’t provide any medical advice or do assessments. My support is non-medical and I help you to find the information you need to make informed choices about your care. I will advocate for you and amplify your voice if you are not being heard, but it’s your job to consent or decline to procedures. I will unpack your options with you going through the benefits, risks and alternatives to ensure that you have all the information required to make a choice that feels best for you and your baby.

Yes, I provide postpartum support as part of my birth support packages. If you are interested in postpartum support alone, please send me a message and I will accommodate depending on my availability.

Yes! I love taking quick snaps of you during labour and birth. I use my iPhone so I can’t guarantee the quality, however I know that the memories are priceless. The birth suite is usually dark, so videoing is often a great way to capture the birth as it doesn’t have that delay that the photos have. I can use my phone or I can use your phone. I will send you the photos via air drop at our postpartum visit. If you are wanting high quality photos I suggest using a birth photographer.

Supporting women and their families through this journey is my soul work. I myself have navigated pregnancy, birth and postpartum through a range of different experiences and I can relate to you on a personal level. I am passionate about supporting you to find your power and follow your intuition through your journey. I seek opportunities to improve my skills and knowledge constantly and reflect on my practice to build self-awareness and always challenge my ego. I’m by your side holding space for you, knowing when to tap into my extensive skills and knowledge should you desire additional support.

The very first birth I attended was mid 2021 as a support person for my friend, and I realised my passion and purpose from there. I commenced my doula training shortly after this and have been walking alongside women and their families providing a range of pregnancy, birth and postpartum support during this time.

I trained through the Doula Training Academy with Vicki Hobbs. I completed this incredibly comprehensive and highly respected course online and later attended training days with Vicki when she came to Hobart to learn the practical body work techniques.

I am purposeful in establishing rapport with the midwives and doctors who provide care to the women and families I support, with the aim of fostering a cohesive team. This involves simple gestures such as introducing myself and communicating my role, respecting their space and skills during assessments, being proactive and offering assistance when needed, speaking with respect, and seeking their guidance and advice when appropriate to collaborate for the best outcomes. Throughout these interactions, my focus remains on the woman as the central figure in the room, as well as her partner, ensuring that the staff consistently demonstrate respect and actively listen to her. I will always speak up and advocate for my clients if I see or hear anything concerning. It is vital that the woman does not sense any disharmony in the room but trusts that her team is working well together to support her. When I leave after a birth, the midwives have always made a point of thanking me for my contribution, and I thank them for their work too.

You are welcome to contact me at any point of your journey from when you are planning your pregnancy, the day you find out you’re pregnant, right up to late pregnancy. The earlier you contact me the more likely that I will have availability, and a huge benefit of connecting with me early is that you will have support right from when you decide to work with me. I love getting to know you and building a relationship through pregnancy. Having someone you know and trust with you through labour and birth has many beautiful benefits.

It’s never too late to reach out! If I can fit you in, I will. And I can consolidate our prenatal visits if time is short. We can usually make it work!
